"If you are doing something you would do for nothing - then you are on your way to salvation. And if you could drop it in a minute and forget the outcome, you are even further along. And if while you are doing it you are transported into another existence, there is no need for you to worry about the future."

a different 4th term

There are three classes that I am looking forward to be part of.

These are my two Marketing classes with Multimedia Arts and Sciences (MAS) students and my Engineering Management Practices class where a Korean student is enrolled.

I am excited about facilitating the knowledge acquisition process for Marketing with MAS students. Why? They are a bunch of unusual thinkers. Their thinking process is different, as I have observed this week, compared to mathematically seasoned engineers :)

The journey towards the goal is interestingly unknown :)

While the Engineering Management Practices class with a Korean student is a challenge in itself because of language. I am really curious to know why would the 13th largest economy send its young men to study in a "still-struggling-to-find-its-niche" in the world country like ours.

Is it because they want their youth to have a very varied experience compared to their Asian counterparts? Are they positioning the next South Koreans to be truly global citizens? Global not only because they were born in a globalized world but because they have truly experienced various culture first hand and in an extended period?

This is really interesting. I can't wait how I will come out after these two new experiences :)

the soul that is the clash of the titans

"... there will come a time when someone will stand up and will say - 'Enough!'"

I truly believe that that time is just around the corner. But I am hoping that the anger will be expressed in an innovative way and not the usual rebellion id. I am so tired with that path. Promises made at those throat shaterring speeches never quite translate to reality. More so those political ad campaigns that's already costing the "party" billions and still counting :)

"... there will come a time when someone will stand up and will say - 'Enough!'"

And I think this someone will not be one but a hoard. Those who sit at the Upuan will not see them coming. These hoard will act and behave like the most dangerous liver cancer cells. It will only be diagnosed when it is already too late. The whole current system will already be in its last stages and is already transforming to this new life :)

I scanned our local TV channels and its cable productions. It all smells the same. Conceptualized and produced by those who has a stake in maintaining the status quo. A status quo that has seen the middle class disappear in number, the low-level income Filipinos get larger, OFW numbers climbing while the GDP numbers keeps increasing. The usual suspects for our lot, the Filipino population reaching 100 million this year :)

"... there will come a time when someone will stand up and will say - 'Enough!'"

How do we get over confusion? Pain? Suffering? Do we get over them when we have clarity? When we are healthy? When we are happy?

NO! We get over confusion when we are confused. Rise above pain and suffering when are in pain and sufferring.

These present times. These worst of times are the best of times. (To paraphrase Dickens seminal line.) For it is in these times that the future generation will see how great the current Filipinos are.

If there's something that I took away from the recent "holy week", is the fact that Peter never believed that the glorious Sunday was coming. It was in the saddest of the sad Friday when he lied and disowned his Friend and Master. It was in the saddest of the sad Friday when all but two of disciples hid. Confused and afraid. Never believing that the glorious Sunday is coming.

We are all confused, sad and scared in our own current version of a Good Friday. But do we know that the glorious Sunday is coming? :)

ode to iPad

iPad.

Maybe it is the press release. The PR push. The net clutter. The noise. The marketing genius. Or simply the credibility of the one who pushes. Maybe :)

iPad is a beautiful small step for moving the formal education system and industry out of the formal education business :) Or maybe it simply an expansion or a re-imagining of things :)

Maybe. It's shifty. It's exciting.

life-long learners

As a professor that facilitates learning in a school that espouses ABET's outcome based education, I am challenged, curious and equally excited in developing and refining a process that assimilates this trait of being life-long learners in a student's character.

The results have been funny in a way. Interesting would be a more sophisticated adjective :)

I've been at it for more than six years and what I've found still amuses me. Maybe it is not a problem to be solved. Maybe it is a mystery that has to be explored and discovered.

Maybe, we still need another six years :)

Saturday

the irony of wisdom

How do we conquer weakness? In strength? Or when we are actually weak?

Just a question :)

political fever

I caught myself.

With the demands of school on hold, I was free to immerse myself in other things. And I got hooked with the May Elections.

I followed the stories for about five days. Heard the mud-sling and the counter mud-sling. It never ends. Oh, well.

If there's one thing I give to the various political aspirants, they campaign as if "it" all depends on them :)

One can easily get caught in this thinking. This very limited thinking and vote a person because he has the most polished narrative out there and not because he is the most apt one.

Good thing, I caught myself and woke up.

My choice is made. I already know who I will vote for the President and the Vice-President. I already know who I will vote for the senators. The Mayor and the Vice-Mayor. But I am still at a lost to my City Councilors and Congressman. Honestly, I can not see nor understand their accountability loop :)

How I wish the networks show how the whole city governance work so that voters have a more informed choice rather than shading the known and familiar names? How I wish their is a political show that presents how each city used their funds? Will it get them a Pulitzer if they do that? :)

I will go out and vote. And then that's that. I will act as if it is not up to the government. I will do my part. Build and strengthen a business. Teach and reach out the next generation. Prepare them. Faithfully love my soon to be wife. Have kids. Two boys and a girl. God willing. Above all, serve Him.

moment of alchemist

My heart is afraid that it will have to suffer,' the boy told the alchemist one night as they looked up at the moonless sky. 'Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second's encounter with God and with eternity.

anger and bitterness

It is acceptable to be angry. But to hold it all in is wrong. Anger can be an inspiration. It needs expression. Write it. Paint it. Sing it. Make movies with it. But never hold it all in.

And bitterness is something else. It is dangerous. Lethal even.

Bitterness does not do anything to the object of bitterness. But it definitely destroys the one who keeps it and care for it :)

Lord, show us enough and timely success that we do not become embitter of life...

silence

Silence
It is not nothing.
It is rich.
It is a start.
It is a possibility.
... a true fresh start.
... it is necessary for something beautiful.
... even if it's awkward :)
so, don't beat yourself :)
